MakerSpace NYC
MakerSpace NYC was founded in 2013 after the studio and metal shop once privately used by our founders, DB Lampman & Scott Van Campen was flooded by Hurricane Sandy. Sandy hit in October 2012 and over the next year, thanks to funding from the NYCEDC and the many volunteers who gave their time, advice, skills and hard work, we opened Staten Island MakerSpace on October 28, 2013.
Since 2013, the organization has grown to become a cultural anchor in the borough, and helped thousands of creative entrepreneurs get their start. In addition to a vibrant makerspace, our staff and a team of volunteers have created a sculpture park in Staten Island that provides artists with the opportunity to create large scale public art. Our education department has flourished and we are proud to have provided STEM and arts education to tens of thousands of students all across the city. In the 2018-19 school year we taught over 18,000 K-12 students in New York City schools.
